The new Data Protection Act imposes new obligations on Swiss companies such as maintaining an inventory of data processing activities, entering into additional contracts with service providers that process personal data, and violations can be sanctioned with a fine of up to CHF 250,000.
While the EU Data Protection Directive (GDPR) did not affect certain Swiss-based companies, the new Data Protection Act will be relevant for all Swiss companies. Companies that already comply with the requirements of the GDPR should also address the new Swiss data protection law, as there are differences in content between the two legislations.
